Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes are increasingly used to capture and manage information to design and construct water utility facility assets. BIM 3D models are used by designers and can help water utility owners visualize design concepts while the associated databases store detailed project information as it is created. Contractors utilize BIM for clash detection, construction sequencing, and cost cash flow throughout construction. This BIM use during design and construction is often not visible to water utility owners, and these agencies are seeking ways to leverage the BIM models for their long-term use after the construction of the project is complete. This requires the establishment of BIM coordination requirements and protocols if consistent standards are to be applied for the BIM used in their projects. This webinar will explore the benefits achieved and lessons learned by four utilities that have established programs to leverage BIM for their projects considering the long-term value in asset onboarding, training, and future facility design and construction.
