Industrial waste streams can be difficult to treat. To add to these issues, some industrial facilities are located in areas with common water shortages. This learning module includes presentations from several award-winning industrial experts who will share their thoughts on addressing these challenges. The first presentation explores the possibilities of using reverse osmosis concentrate as a source of reusable water. The second presentation is the W. Wesley Eckenfelder 2020 Industrial Water Quality Lifetime Achievement award winner, Paul Usinowicz. This expert shares his experiences and unique perspective on addressing the waste streams and often complex issues that industrial facilities face every day.

At the conclusion of this learning module, participants will be able to

  • discuss the technology developments and experiences with treating highly saline concentrate streams;
  • describe the applications for reusing water from reverse osmosis concentrate;
  • outline common issues industrial facilities face; and
  • give examples of ideas and solutions from the 2020 W. Wesley Eckenfelder award winner.

This learning module is also available as a part of the Industrial Water Management and Reuse short course.
