This webcast will include a presentation on artificial intelligence (AI) applications in the water sector. Presented on an interactive platform, algorithms are specifically suited to analyze and provide answers to the challenges of excess energy consumption facing water system operators and business planners. A platform aggregates existing data from system meters and sensors to determine the best operating parameters to spend the lowest amount of energy per gallon of water produced. It enables operators to harness the power of AI by extracting actionable insights from their own data, empowering them to increase energy efficiency and reduce operating costs. Also, intelligent systems technology assists in predicting issues and improving performance for utilities.
The webcast will provide an overview of MWRD Greater Chicago’s Outcome-Driven approach to stormwater planning. The presentation will focus on MWRD Greater Chicago (The District) innovative approach to flooding and drainage problems in the City of Chicago. Alongside their consulting engineers, District staff leveraged a unique set of algorithms and the computational cloud to examine millions of possible strategies. The result is an optimal combination of green and grey solutions that significantly lower the expected cost while simultaneously improving the overall service level outcomes. In addition the webcast will provide insights on building a smart sewer system to reduce wet weather overflows aimed at answering the questions: “What if… we could use all available capacity in our pipes before overflows occurred?” and “What if… we could use an unused storage tank to reduce overflows many miles away?”
