This is a WEFTEC Curated Short Course, compiled from the most topical and in-demand content from WEFTEC and other WEF events.

This short course consists of 3 learning modules, as well as some bonus content and additional resources.

The use of technological solutions is not limited to “inside the fence”. Digital solutions and tools like data management and artificial intelligence are gaining widespread use to monitor, optimize, and control the performance of water and wastewater collection systems. This short course reviews the latest information, including how digital tools can substantially reduce capital and operational costs. Topics include asset management, hydraulic modeling, condition assessment programs, sensors and monitors, and IOT tools.

At the conclusion of this short course, participants will be able to

  • explain examples of digital solutions that can predict flooding and sewer/drainage system hydraulic conditions in advance of weather for operational planning and emergency response purposes;
  • identify tools and applications to verify the integrity of existing infrastructure and identify future financial needs for asset renewal;
  • discuss applications of digital solutions for specific situations in the collection system such as unstaffed real-time control facilities (RTCs); and
  • describe application of hydraulic modeling to determine system capacity management decisions and to assess sewer rehabilitation needs.

This WEFTEC Curated Short Course consists of 3 learning modules (Digital Solutions for Collection Systems; Leveraging Digital Solutions for Linear Assets; Collection Systems Top Model) as well as some bonus content and additional resources. On completion of all three learning modules, learners will receive a badge that can be shared on networking sites such as LinkedIn.
